Changing Lives Through Access: Water

It is no secret that Haiti’s political climate is currently crumbling. Lack of infrastructure is wreaking havoc all over the country and straining the Haitian people’s access to already limited resources. Because of the bleak political and economic situation throughout the country, we believe Potter & Clay should continue to fight harder than ever to alleviate physical suffering around us.

Can you imagine your life without running water? What if the water you depend on to cook, wash clothes, and take a bath depended on you walking for up to four hours a day to get it to your house?

The truth is we have no idea what that burden feels like. But as Potter & Clay spent time in communities like Vye Boulay, we learned one of the biggest struggles these families were facing was access to water. Our staff knew we had to do something! Gilbert Justin, a civil engineer and Potter & Clay’s project manager, worked with residents of Vye Boulay to come up with a solution.

Potter & Clay Ministries is currently working in Vye Boulay to install rain gutters on each house in the community that will send water into a 250 gallon storage tank!! This is LIFE-CHANGING! This means that gardens can be watered, clothes can be washed, valuable time can be used for things other than walking to get water!

People from Vye Boulay have expressed to us multiple times how much it means to them that we are following through with this project and haven’t forgotten about them, which has been their experience in the past. We love taking the opportunity to explain to them it’s all because of our wonder Potter & Clay Ministries family that these projects are possible!
